Overview

Create a CSGO Server

This guide will, step by step, explain how to install source dedicated server for windows.
SRCDS is what you use if you, for example, want to host a csgo server.

Download and install SteamCMD
download SteamCMD
This is used to create and update your servers.

Now you should create a folder for your SteamCMD files. C:/SteamCMD is a good path.
Place the SteamCMD.exe file you have extracted from the .zip archive in the new folder and run the program. You will see a console window that automatically will start to install the files needed. When it is done it will look something like this.

Now you can close SteamCMD.exe

Install the SRCDS with SteamCMD
Right click on SteamCMD.exe and then click on "Create Shortcut".
Name the shortcut whatever you want and then right click it and click on "properties".
Navigate to the "Shortcut" tag and change the field marked "Target" to this.
C:\SteamCMD\steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +force_install_dir C:\MYSERVERPATH +app_update 740 +quit

You should of course change the C:\MYSERVERPATH to the path you want to use. If you want your server to be placed in. For example; if you want to start a aimserver you should maybe add C:\Aimserver
If you installed your SteamCMD in any other location then C:\SteamCMD you should of course change that as well.

Now click "OK" and dubbleclick the new shortcut. It will start to download and install the server. This might take a while pending on how fast your internet connection/computer is.
The downloading/installing is done when to progress reaches 100.

SteamCMD should exit itself when it's done but if it does not, just type "exit" and hit enter.
This shortcut (this method) is what you use every time your server needs to be updated (if you don't use an auto-update script).

Starting the server
Go to the path where you installed the server and rightclick on the srcds.exe file.
Click on "Create Shortcut" and name the shortcut whatever you want (This will be the shortcut to start the server).
Now rightclick on the shortcut and hit "Properties".
Make sure the "Shortcut"-tab is highlighted and edit the text in the "Target"-field to start the type of game you want. See examples here below

Classic Casual:
srcds -game csgo -console -usercon +game_type 0 +game_mode 0 +mapgroup mg_active +map de_dust2
Classic Competitive:
srcds -game csgo -console -usercon +game_type 0 +game_mode 1 +mapgroup mg_active +map de_dust2
Arms Race:
srcds -game csgo -console -usercon +game_type 1 +game_mode 0 +mapgroup mg_armsrace +map ar_shoots
Demolition:
srcds -game csgo -console -usercon +game_type 1 +game_mode 1 +mapgroup mg_demolition +map de_lake
Deathmatch:
srcds -game csgo -console -usercon +game_type 1 +game_mode 2 +mapgroup mg_allclassic +map de_dust

Here is what it could look like:
C:\MYSERVERPATH\srcds.exe -game csgo -console -usercon +game_type 0 +game_mode 1 +mapgroup mg_active -pingboost 2 -usercon -maxplayers 10 -tickrate 128 -port 27015 -nobots +map de_dust2 +exec server.cfg

This will set the tickrate to 128, the port for the server to 27015 (default), the starting map to de_dust2, it will deactivate bots and execute the server.cfg that you will create later.

You can look up more launch parameters here

Configurating the server
For the servers to work you will sometimes have to create a steam_appid file and place in the root folder of your server. To create this file just open up notpad and type "3733 300a 00", now save the file as "steam_appid.txt" in the root folder of your server.

Now we are going to create a server.cfg file. This file will be executed when the server starts and every time it changes map. In this file we will add the settings for in-game playing.
Open up notpad once again and start by typing the following:

hostname "My server name"
// Change My server name to whatever name you want the server to have.
rcon_password "admin password"
// Change admin password to whatever password you want to use for rcon commands
sv_password "server password"
// Change server password to whatever password you want the server to have, leave blank for no password.
sv_lan "0"
// Set to "1" if the server is only for the local area network. Set to "0" for everyone to be able to join.
sv_cheats "0"
// Set to "1" to enable cheats and to "0" to disable cheats

There are a lot more commands that you can configure but this here are the most important.
Now save the file as a "server.cfg" (to save as a .cfg file you'll have to set "File Format" to "Any File" when you are saving with notpad).
Now go to your server folder -> csgo -> cfg (place the server.cfg here)

Running the server
You are now ready to start the server by clicking the shortcut we created in the root folder of your server.
For everyone to connect they need your IP (not the local IP).
To find out your IP you can simply go to myip.se and copy the address.
For people to join they might need to add the port you use after the ip (this will not be necessary if you use the default port; 27015). To connect with both IP and port the will need to add a colon and the port after the IP. Like this: 83.252.128.203:27015 (the underlined are the port).

Remember that you will have to open your firewall ports for people to be able to join. If you don't know how to do this; read this guide.

Have fun on your server!
You are now done! I hope this guide was of any help!
Just PM me if you have any questions.
